Actual Secretary of the International Theological Commission (2021), He holds a doctorate in Philosophy from the University of Turin and a doctorate in Theology from the Pontifical Lateran University in Rome, where he also taught from 1985 to 2008. He is currently full professor of Trinitarian Theology and Ontology, and coordinator of the Department of Theology, Philosophy and Human Sciences at the Sophia University Institute in Loppiano (in Incisa in Val d’Arno) founded by Chiara Lubich (where he was dean from 2008 to 2020).
He is a member of the International Theological Commission, of the Italian Theological Association (of which he was president from 2003 to 2011), of the Pontifical Academy of Theology (of which he was prelate secretary from 2003 to 2008), and of research groups in various countries (e.g., CELAM’s Trinitarian Anthropology in Latin America).
He is a consultant to the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity and a member of the International Mixed Commission for Theological Dialogue between the Catholic Church and the Orthodox Church.
He was ordained presbyter for the suburbicarian see of Frascati, where he was episcopal vicar for the pastoral care of culture, ecumenism and dialogue.
He was Consultor of the Pontifical Council for the Laity (2008-2013) and Consultor of the Pontifical Council for Interreligious Dialogue (1996-2007).
He was a member of the CEI Committee for Higher Studies in Theology and Religious Sciences (2012-2018), of the Scientific Advisory Committee for the Cultural Project at CEI (1995-2008), and of the Interdisciplinary Study Centre ‘Scuola Abbà’ founded by Chiara Lubich (1989-2015).
Internationally committed to interdisciplinary and interreligious dialogue, he contributes to numerous scientific and cultural journals and is the author of numerous theological publications characterised by a strong Trinitarian imprint, almost all of which have been translated into various languages.
