Pontifical University of the Holy Cross, Rome, March 15-16, 2024
The Course on the Emotional Regulation of the Spiritual Companion, organised by the ROR together with the Joan Baptista Torelló Research Group, involved around fifty spiritual accompaniers, clerics and lay people, on 15 and 16 March 2024.
The aim of the meetings was to reflect in a dialogue between the psychological and theological disciplines on the spiritual guide relationship and to equip participants with practical tools for verifying the healthy conditions of the relationship and preventing burnout.
In view of this, the concern of the speakers was to facilitate awareness of the stressful factors in helping relationships and to arouse in the helpers an active vigilance in recognizing and regulating their own emotions.
Theoretical and explanatory moments were followed by personal work and discussion in small groups, with a case study for active learning of self-awareness.
The speakers were Professors Francisco Insa and Ilaria Vigorelli, theologians, Prof. Carlos Chiclana, psychiatrist, and Dr. Daria Gianella, PhD in psychology and psychotherapist.
